How Do Extra Turns and Skipped Phases Work?

Insert an additional turn after the current turn, or omit only the event a Skip instruction names.

The short answer

An effect that tells you to take a turn after this adds your turn immediately after the current one. Finish that extra turn, then continue with the turns already waiting. It does not change the game's established .

If an effect tells you to a phase or event, replace that phase or event with nothing and continue. Things that would trigger because it happened do not trigger. You cannot choose to skip part of a turn without an instruction allowing it.

How it works

Think of the upcoming turns as a queue. An inserts a temporary entry into that queue. After it is taken, remove that entry; the regular repeating order still exists underneath it.

is also used for passing and and ordering some simultaneous events. An extra turn changes whose turn comes next in the queue, not that established player order.

When several effects create turns after the current turn, apply each as it happens. Each new turn is inserted immediately after the current turn, ahead of extra turns already queued there. The examples below show why the order in which those effects happen matters.

Endless Riches

is a replacement effect. Read exactly what it replaces: an entire turn, a phase, a step or a particular event. Skipping a Draw Phase is different from an instruction that skips just a card draw. Do not remove more of the turn than the instruction names.

Endless Riches

When you play this, banish your hand and trash, then [Burn 7]. Skip your Draw Phase. You may play cards from your trash. If a card would go to your trash from anywhere other than your Main Deck, banish it instead.

A skipped phase is not performed and then undone. Its events never happen, so abilities waiting for those events do not trigger. Resume at the next applicable part of the turn.

Example

Example 1 - One additional turn

In a two-player game it is A's turn, with B normally next. An effect gives A a turn after this:

A's current turn → A's additional turn → B's normal turn → A's normal turn.

Example 2 - Two effects insert turns

In a four-player game the regular order is A, B, C, D. During A's turn, an effect first gives D a turn after this. A later effect gives B a turn after this:

After the first effect: A now → D extra → B normal → C normal → D normal.

After the second effect: A now → B extra → D extra → B normal → C normal → D normal.

B's new entry goes directly after the current turn. The regular A, B, C, D Turn Order has not changed.

Example 3 - Skipping a phase

An effect tells you to skip your Draw Phase. Finish Channel → omit Draw Phase → proceed to Main Phase. You do not take that phase's normal draw, and an ability triggered by the start of your Draw Phase does not trigger.
