How Do Damage, Might and Healing Work?

RiftPal explanation · Answer first
The short answer
DamageDamage represents harm marked on a unit and stays marked until it is healed.View in Glossary is marked on a unit; it does not reduce that unit's MightMight represents both how much Combat Damage a unit can contribute and how much marked Damage it can normally take before being killed.View in Glossary . A unit normally has Lethal DamageMarked damage sufficient to kill a unit in cleanup. Normally it must be a nonzero amount at least equal to the unit's Might. Effects can change the amount needed.View in Glossary when it has a nonzero amount of damage at least equal to its current Might. The next cleanup normally kills it.
RiftPal explanation
How it works
Damage remains marked until the unit heals or leaves the board for a non-board zone. HealClear marked damage from one or more units. Healing does not raise their Might.View in Glossary means clear marked damage; it does not raise Might or protect against later damage.
All units heal during Combat Cleanup and during the special cleanup at the end of each turn. Ordinary cleanups at other times do not heal them. A RecallRecall means moving a permanent back to its controller's Base.View in Glossary by itself also does not heal a unit or remove its statuses.
If an effect changes a damaged unit's Might, compare its marked damage with the new current Might at the next cleanup.
