How Does Deploy Work?
Play or create Deploy gear only to a battlefield. It stays through the usual recall check, but an opponent holding there triggers its destruction.
RiftPal explanation · Answer first
The short answer
You may play DeployA gear keyword requiring it to be played or created to a battlefield. Its non-unit form avoids the usual battlefield recall; when an opponent holds its battlefield, its kill ability triggers.View in Glossary gear to any battlefield, including one controlled or occupied by an opponent. Deploy itself does not let you play it to Base. Its non-unit form is exempt from the usual Cleanup recall of unattached gear at battlefields.
RiftPal explanation
How it works
Gear does not take control of a battlefield merely by being there. When an opponent holds its battlefield, Deploy’s kill ability goes on the Chain. It is the Hold event, not the opponent simply conquering or occupying it with a unit, that triggers this ability.
Deploy does not supply Standard Move. A suitable effect can move the gear to another battlefield. Several instances of Deploy do not give several benefits.
In practice
Example
You play Deploy gear to an enemy-controlled battlefield. It stays there through Cleanup. At that opponent’s Hold step, its kill ability triggers; resolve that ability through the normal Chain process.
