How Do You Replace Cards in Your Opening Hand?
A mulligan lets you exchange up to two opening cards. Draw their replacements before putting the set-aside cards back.
RiftPal explanation · Answer first
The short answer
After drawing your opening four cards, you may replace zero, one or two of them. Set the chosen cards aside, draw the same number of replacements, then RecycleRecycle means returning a card to the bottom of the appropriate deck. Draw first, return the cards afterward. You do not shuffle your whole hand back or draw a new hand of four.

How it works
Players take their MulliganYour chance during setup to replace up to two of your four opening cards. Set them aside, draw the same number of replacements, then recycle the set-aside cards.View in Glossary in turn order before the first turn begins. Decide how many cards to replace, up to two, and set those cards aside together. Keeping all four is allowed.
Draw that many replacement cards while the original cards are still set aside. You cannot draw those particular copies as replacements because they are not in the deck yet. You could draw another copy with the same name.
Once you have the replacements, put the set-aside cards on the bottom of your Main Deck. If you returned two, randomize their order. Do not shuffle the rest of your deck.
That completes your mulligan. You do not repeat it because you dislike the replacements. Your opening hand still has four cards. First-turn draw adjustments in some modes happen later; they do not reduce this opening hand or remove your mulligan.

Example
You draw four cards and decide to replace two. Set those two aside, keeping the other two in hand. Draw two new cards, bringing your hand back to four. Finally, place the two set-aside cards on the bottom of the Main Deck in a random order. You are ready; the next player takes their mulligan.
